What we collect, and what we do with it.

Hawthorn Construction is a residential renovation and construction company operating in Ontario, Canada. This policy covers this website and the enquiries that come through it. We are a small business, not an advertising company, and we have no interest in collecting more about you than we need to quote your project.

What you give us directly

If you fill in the contact form or call us, we collect what you choose to tell us:

• Your name and phone number, which we need to call you back.
• Your email address, if you give it. It is optional on the form.
• Your city and the type of project, so we know whether we cover your area and who should look at it.
• A rough budget range, if you tell us. It is used to scope the work sensibly, not to price you differently.
• Anything you write in the message field.
• Photos or documents you upload. People send pictures of the space so the first estimate is more accurate.

We use this to respond to your enquiry, prepare an estimate, and carry out the work if you hire us. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone for marketing.

Phone calls

Our phone line is answered by an automated assistant outside working hours. It takes your name, number, and a short description of the work so Cameron can call you back. Those details are stored the same way a form submission is. If you would rather speak to a person, call during the day or say so and we will ring you back.

What the website collects on its own

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how people find and move through it, which pages are useful, and which are not. It sets cookies in your browser and records things like the pages you view, roughly where you are (city level), your device and browser, and the site or search that sent you here.

We have turned on IP anonymisation and turned off Google's advertising signals, so this data is not used to build an advertising profile of you. We look at it in aggregate. We are not trying to identify individual visitors and the reports we read do not let us.

The site is served through Cloudflare, which keeps standard network logs for security and performance, including IP addresses. That happens for every site behind Cloudflare and it is what stops the site being knocked over by bots.

How to turn analytics off

• Install Google's official opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
• Turn on Do Not Track, or use a browser that blocks trackers by default, such as Firefox or Brave.
• Block or clear cookies for this site in your browser settings.

None of this stops the website working. Nothing on this site is gated behind accepting cookies.

Who else sees your information

Only the services we need to actually run the business:

• GoHighLevel, the customer system where enquiries and uploaded photos are stored so we can follow up and keep track of your project.
• Google, for Analytics as described above, and Google Workspace, which hosts our email.
• Cloudflare, which hosts and serves the website.
• Licensed trades and suppliers working on your project, and only the details they need to do their part.

We will also disclose information if the law requires it. Some of these providers store data outside Canada, including in the United States, which means it can be subject to the laws of those countries.

How long we keep it

Enquiries and project records are kept while we are working with you and for a reasonable period afterwards, because renovation work carries warranties and questions come up years later. If you asked for a quote and never went ahead, and you would rather we did not keep the details, say so and we will delete them.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it. Email contact@hawthornconstruction.ca or call 647-560-6115 and we will deal with it. You do not need to give a reason, and there is no charge.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Children

This site is aimed at homeowners. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. We will not quietly start doing something with your information that this page says we do not.
